Dear Sutherland Families,

Please be aware that we will be sending home a census for with your
child on Wednesday, January 23. This type of census tracks the number
of school age children by county for the purpose of determining the
percentage of state tax revenue that will be shared with each county.
Of course, we have information on students who are in school with us,
but if you have any children between the age of 5 and 20 who are not
enrolled in Albemarle County Schools, please fill out the information
requested on the form we are sending you and return it to school by your
children. Thank you! The explanation on the front of the form is:

2008 TRIENNIAL SCHOOL CENSUS

In accordance with the provisions of Section 22.1-281 through 22.1-286
of the Code of Virginia, January 1 through July 15, 2008 is designated
as the period during which the 2008 Triennial School Census will be
conducted and completed. School divisions are required to submit a
summary count of all persons age 5-19 residing in their respective
counties, cities, and towns. Statistics from the census will be used by
the Commonwealth of Virginia to determine the distribution of the one
percent state sales tax money and other monies to counties, cities and
towns. Our county and the Commonwealth of Virginia will also use
statistics in planning to meet future educational needs and as an aid in
formulating future education policies at the local and state levels.
Therefore it is important to all residents that an accurate census count
is made so that our county receives its fair share.

The Albemarle County Department of Fiscal Services is now in the process
of gathering data for Albemarle County. Our staff members plan to count
the students who are currently attending the Albemarle County Public
Schools. If you have children who will have reached or passed their
fifth birthday on December 31, 2008 and who will not have reached their
twentieth birthday on December 31, 2008 and they are not currently
attending an Albemarle County School, please call (434) 296-5829 or
visit the Albemarle County Schools Web-Page (http://k12.albemarle.org)
for School Census Information or to complete a form,( click on
Departments, Fiscal Services and census form on the left hand menu bar).
