Dear Sutherland Parents,
The 2007-2008 Sutherland PTO has been a very active, results oriented
group of dedicated parents working hard to support both the students and
the staff of Sutherland Middle School. We had a late start this year
but we quickly gathered our resources and moved forward to plan what our
goals would be for the new year.
This year we endeavored smaller fundraising events such as The
Valentines' Day Bake Sale and the Barnes and Noble Book Fair. These
were modest fundraisers but each year we hope, if new boards continue
with these fundraisers, they will continue to grow and grow. Our most
ambitious fundraiser was The Shark Shop school store. The students
seemed to really like having a school store. Under the guidance of
Suzette Buck the Shark Shop will continue next year.
Because of our hard work we are happy to report that this year we were
able to purchase many items for the Sutherland community. We purchased
4 new pieces of equipment called ELMO (one for each grade level and one
for the exploratory team). ELMO is a high tech overhead projector that
displays images in 3D. Cool stuff! Other items purchased were 2
large-capacity external hard drives for students to store their
multimedia school projects and 2 new microwaves for the cafeteria so now
your children will not have to wait in line "forever" to heat up their
lunches. In addition, we financially supported the 8th grade dance,
the phone directory, $50.00 per teacher for classroom supplies, Teacher
Appreciation Week and Field Days.
All in all I think we had a great year!
On behalf of the PTO Board I would like to personally thank all the
volunteers who cooked, baked, wrapped baskets, chaperoned, sold for the
school store, attended monthly meetings and to those who gave generously
with their financial donations. All your efforts are most appreciated!
Have a wonderful summer,
Carol Lee
President
