Dear SMS Chorus Student Families,

Many thanks for a wonderful, musical year with your children!  

We have had some great highlights this year; Honors Chorus in November, Winter Concert in December with the Patriot Singers, A.H.S. basketball game in January and Pre-Festival Concert and District Chorus in February. We also brought in highest marks and perfect scores: all "1's" in District Festival in March and "First Place" at the Music Showcase Festival at Kings Dominion in May. To finish off we just had our great, fun Spring Concert this week. 

But most of all, for all of us here at Sutherland, we have had the joy of seeing your children grow and develop; not just their lovely voices  but also their musical talent, their willingness to help and be of service to their school and community as well as their sense of responsibility for themselves and each other. Their boundless spirit is always an inspiration to us all here. I would like to thank each and every one of you for your support of these marvelous young people and their beautiful singing.

Now, briefly to the technical details... In order to wrap the school year up, please note two important items:

1.) UNIFORM RETURN: Please make sure that your child's assigned chorus uniform is returned to the school no later than Wednesday, May 28th. These uniforms will be dry-cleaned by the chorus department so you do not have to wash or iron them. It is most important that the student's name is clearly marked on the bag or pinned to the uniform. The box for uniform returns is in the chorus room, clearly marked. 

2. MUSIC RETURN: It happens to the best of us...some students have not yet returned Honors Chorus, District Chorus, and/or Boy's Chorus music folders. I know this can happen easily at the end of a busy school year, but parents, please speak to your children about this sheet music and see if any folders have gone into hiding in your closets or under beds in your house. We are still missing a few!

Again, dear families, thank you all for a wonderful 2007-08. We wish our 8th graders all the best at  Albemarle High School next year. They will all be entering a fantastic music program there. I personally am greatly looking forward to seeing my rising 7th and 8th graders as well as our big new 6th grade chorus in the fall!
