[SutherlandMatters] Information About the 8th Grade dance

Dear 8th Grade Parent:


The annual 8th Grade Celebration Dance will be held on Saturday, May 16th, 2009 from 7:30 - 10:00 p.m. in the "theme-decorated" Sutherland Gathering Area.  It is FREE to all Sutherland 8th grade students.  This fun and memorable evening, hosted by the Sutherland PTO and 8th grade parents, celebrates the achievements of EVERY Sutherland 8th grade student.  We hope you will encourage your child to attend.  There is no need for the student to be accompanied by a date. 

*    THEME:  The student selected theme is  'Lights, Camera, Action!'

*    Activities during the night include:                                                                                                                              * door prizes for all attendees (grand prize: digital camera)                                                                    * professional photo area (students will receive a free 5x7 framed photo)                                               * dancing featuring D.J. Jay Lopez                                                                                                                           * elegant desserts and other refreshments                                                                                                        * gift bags with specially selected items including a class t-shirt                                                              * other surprises

*    This Celebration is for 8th Grade Sutherland students only (no guests). 

*    SECURITY:   All students are required to check-in upon arrival.   The Celebration Dance will be chaperoned by parents, school staff and a resource officer.  Students will not be allowed to leave before 10:00 p.m. unless they are signed out by an authorized adult.

*    ATTIRE:  Although this is a festive affair, it is not a prom.  Prom dresses/gowns, costumes, and limousines are not appropriate for our event.                                                                                                 *Girls generally wear nice dresses/sundresses that might be worn out to dinner.  Dresses/tops with spaghetti straps are acceptable.  Strapless dresses/tops are not allowed.              *Boys usually wear nice button down or polo type shirts (no t-shirts) and nice shorts or pants (no jeans).                                                                                                                                                                        * Please contact the school at 975-0599 with any questions about the dress code.
