In this message:

2. Grandparents' Day Special Activity on Sept. 8.
3. Museum closed Sept. 18-21.
Mark your calendar and join us for a wonderful family concert on Friday, Sept. 21:
The Deedle Deedle Dees, a Brooklyn-based rock band for kids (and smart adults), will be performing a Benefit Concert for the Virginia Discovery Museum at the Charlottesville Pavilion on Friday September 21, 2007 at 5:30 p.m. Donations will be accepted at the Pavilion entrance the day of the concert. (Suggested donation of $5 per person / $20 per family) In addition, the New Dominion Bookshop will be selling children's books at the concert and donating a percentage of the sales to the Virginia Discovery Museum. This event is made possible by generous support from an anonymous donor who is matching corporate sponsorships up to $5000 and fabulous corporate sponsors who have made this grant a reality: Adenosine Therapeutics, Better Living Inc., Armstrong Advantage Team of Keller Williams Realty, Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Central Virginia, Quad-C Management Inc., and Virginia National Bank.
Who are the Deedle Deedle Dees?
The Deedle Deedle Dees are an educational rock band based in Brooklyn, NY. Since October 2003, the band has been entertaining family audiences with songs inspired by history and science -- "Underground Railroad," "Nellie Bly," "Rancher Ants" -- as well as simple movement-based tunes like "Play Your Hand" and "Vegetarian T-Rex."
This March, the band released their long-awaited second album, Freedom in a Box. Produced by Bradford Reed (formerly of King Missile and the Blue Man Group), the album is a great document of the band's lively mix of old-timey rock-n-roll, country, and punk rock. Longtime fan favorites like "Major Deegan" (a melancholy salute to the roadways of New York), "Nellie Bly" (a ballad of the female reporter's trip around the world), and "Teddy Days" (a raucous celebration of Theodore Roosevelt's rise from nerdy schoolchild to superhero president) all appear on this glowing new album.
There are still a few openings in our Grandma/Grandpa and Me program for Sat. Sept. 8:
In honor of National Grandparents Day, come to the Museum with your grandchild to make a Grandma/Grandpa and Me t-shirt together. A photo of you two will be on the front and you can decorate the back with fabric crayons.
Sat. Sept. 8 at 10:30 AM, pre-registration required, call the Museum to register
$15 Members / $20 Nonmembers
The Museum will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 18 - Friday, Sept. 21 for "Work Week"
The staff and volunteers will be hard at work cleaning, painting, and repairing exhibits as well as installing a new exhibit in the Back Gallery, "Meet Me on Main Street". Please join us for the grand re-opening on Sat. Sept. 22!
