                   Two of a Kind Benefit Concert
                 
                 Date:  This Sunday, April 13 - Rain or Shine!

                  Time:  3-5pm

                  Location:  Charlottesville Pavilion

                   

                  Two of a Kind, a family friendly band, will be performing a Benefit Concert for the Virginia Discovery Museum at the Charlottesville Pavilion on Sunday, April 13, 2008 from 3pm to 5pm, rain or shine.   No advanced tickets are required.  Donations will be accepted at the Pavilion entrance the day of the concert. (Suggested donation of $5 per person / $20 per family).  

                   

                  The Monacan Indian Youth Dance Group will be opening with traditional dances in customary Monacan Indian clothing.  The group is composed of boys and girls from the Monacan Nation who are very proud of their Native American culture. This group of young children travels and performs at powwows and other festivals through out the state.  Karenne Wood, a member of the Monacan Tribal Council, will discuss the importance of dance to the Monacan culture.  This cultural program is made possible by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities.

                   

                  Following the Monacan Indian Youth Dance Group, Two of a Kind will perform interactive songs that are fun for kids of all ages.  They will be unveiling a special song honoring Thomas Jefferson, written just for Charlottesville's Virginia Discovery Museum!  Spend Sunday, April 13 with the Virginia Discovery Museum at the Pavilion, beginning at three o'clock.  No advance tickets are required - donations will be accepted the door.  Proceeds from this benefit concert will provide important support for the Museum's operations and help us create new adventures for your family.

            Come learn about traditional Monacan basket making and beadworking.  Karenne
            Wood, Director of the Virginia Indian Heritage Program, will discuss the
            importance of these arts to the Monacan culture.

            Tues-Sat 10:00-5:00 - Sun 1:00-5:00 - Closed Mondays 
            Closed the day before Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving, Dec. 24, Dec. 25, Jan. 1 and Easter. We are open when schools are closed on Snow Days (except on Mondays)! Just call the Museum before heading out.

            ADMISSION:
            $4 per person, all ages (under 1 year old free) - Children must be accompanied by an adult - Museum Members: Free - ASTC and ACM Reciprocal Members: Free - $0.50 AAA discount per person with card - Handicapped accessible

            PARKING:
            2 hours free parking at Market Street Parking Garage (5th & Market) or Water Street Parking Garage (3rd & Water) - bring ticket to front desk for validation
