              ME AT THE MUSEUM  
              Want something fun for your kids to do during teacher work days or while you are running errands?  Let them spend a fun-filled morning at the Virginia Discovery Museum learning about science, culture, or history.  

                
              Chemistry Fun!  
              Session 1:  Monday, October 13, Ages 4-6  

              Session 2:  Monday, October 20, Ages 6-8  

              9 am - 12 noon each day  

              $25 members/$30 nonmembers  

              Come make gooey stuff, explosions, and things you can eat.  Come dressed to make a mess and join us for some fun with chemistry! 


              Pre-registration required.   Space is limited. 


              Eat at Orzo in October and Help VDM!

              Tuesdays in October Orzo Kitchen and Wine Bar in the Main Street Market will donate 10% of their revenue for the whole day to the Virginia Discovery Museum. Orzo is at 416 West Main Street, 975-6796. They are open for lunch 11:30 - 2, siesta and WIFI 2 - 4, and dinner begins at 5:30. We hope you enjoy a nice meal with the additional pleasure of helping the Museum.


                     Annual Wreath Sale

                    To help with your holidays, the Virginia Discovery Museum sells handmade balsam fir wreaths decorated with pine cones and a beautiful tartan bow. These fresh wreaths are shipped directly froom Maine to any location in the continental US. Each wreath is $38.50 for Museum members, $40.75 for non-members.               Coming Soon - New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music Exhibition, Concerts and Programs

              October 24 through December 4, the Virginia Discovery Museum will be proud to host the local exhibition of New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music, a Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibition. This exhibition explores the American story of multi-cultural exchange and celebrates musical traditions such as country and western, blues, gospel, zydeco, tejano and folk. The exhibition is appropriate for older children and adults, but there will be hands-on activities for young children, including a giant guitar and a radio station! 

              This exhibition is brought to you by the Smithsonian Institution, Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, the Virginia Association of Museums and Dominion.

              In conjunction with the New Harmonies exhibition, the Virginia Discovery Museum is presenting exciting concerts, programs and events for kids and adults. October 25 the Carolina Chocolate Drops will be appearing at the Paramount Theater. October 26 Wayne Henderson and Friends and Lee Sexton will perform at the Paramount. Each Saturday in November you will be able to Meet the Musician of different musical genre at the Gravity Lounge.  Go to our website, www.vadm.org, for complete information and tickets.

              HOURS:
              Tues-Sat 10:00-5:00 - Sun 1:00-5:00 - Closed Mondays 
              Closed the day before Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving, Dec. 24, Dec. 25, Jan. 1 and Easter. We are open when schools are closed on Snow Days (except on Mondays)! Just call the Museum before heading out.

              ADMISSION:
              $4 per person, all ages (under 1 year old free) - Children must be accompanied by an adult - Museum Members: Free - ASTC and ACM Reciprocal Members: Free - $0.50 AAA discount per person with card - Handicapped accessible

              PARKING:
              2 hours free parking at Market Street Parking Garage (5th & Market) or Water Street Parking Garage (3rd & Water) - bring ticket to front desk for validation
