Flory Jagoda maintains one of Judaism's rarest and richest cultural traditions through her performance of authentic as well as original compositions of Sephardic songs. Flory grew up in this Sephardic tradition in Sarajevo, Bosnia in the musical Altarac family. One of the few Altarac members who survived World War II, Flory is intent on preserving and passing on the traditions of her heritage so that they will not be lost and tragically forgotten. Jagoda is a talented guitarist as well as a singer, and the echoes of Spain are strong in her playing as well. Susan Gaeta is her apprentice.
Come hear Flory, the keeper of the flame, in an intimate setting.
Sponsored by Crutchfield, J. Fenton Quilts Unlimited, Quad-C Management, Sam Hill Entertainment, Virginia Foundation for the Humanities nd WVTF.
