Good morning folks.

As you know, we are holding a bloood drive next week (please read the info below). What you may not know is this drive is being held in honor of a former Walton student, now at 10th grader at Murray HS, who is battling leukemeia. I'm hoping all of you who are able to do so, will. Please see me if you have any questions.

Paula

Attention Generous Walton Middle School Staff , Family and Community Friends !!!

The Walton Middle School will be sponsoring a blood drive next week as part of our commitment to the public health of our community. On Tuesday,January 9 from 8: 45 pm - 1: 45 pm, a blood drive facilitated by Virginia Blood Services will be held in the trailer. Those of you who have never donated, or perhaps not recently, please come forward and give it a try. VBS needs your help to ensure that there is an adequate supply of blood in this community during every season , but especially after the holidays when supplies are low due to diminished donations and the flu/cold season.

D onating blood is important and only possible through the efforts of everyday people in the community. It is important to consider that blood transfusions saved more lives during the last century than any other treatment, with the exception of antibiotics.

DONATE BLOOD... SAVE LIVES... FEEL GOOD!

All who attempt to donate will receive a VBS Long Sleeve T-shirt. To sign up, see the front office or contact Paula Hoffman.

Making an appointment helps to manage the flow of the drive and can help cut down on waiting time. And, of course, walk-ins are welcome too. Remember to eat well and drink plenty of fluids the day before and the day of the drive.
Most people who are at least 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds or more can donate blood. Those with diabetes, high cholesterol and controlled high blood pressure can give, and there is no upper age limit for donors.

Did You Know:

Approximately 60 % of the population is eligible to donate blood, yet only 5% does. You can't depend on someone else doing it because, chances are, they're thinking the same thing.

Virginia Blood Services is the sole supplier of blood to all hospitals and dialysis centers -and most home health agencies- in central Virginia.

Each unit of whole blood saves three lives. The blood is separated into three components -red blood cells, platelets and plasma- and typically provided to three separate individuals.

Studies show that men who donate at least one pint of blood per year may reduce their risk of heart disease by greater than 50 %. Frequent donors -both men and women- are believed to enjoy a significantly lower risk for many kinds of cancer.

Someone's life depends on you!!!
